The Great Lakes are the largest collection of freshwater on Earth - they are beautiful and support all kinds of water sports; however, they hide a dark secret. Since the first boats were placed on the Great Lakes’ waters, there have been wrecks. The best known of around 6,000 shipwrecks is the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior, which happened on November 10, 1975. Come learn how the “Mighty Fitz’s” sinking affected shipping throughout the Great Lakes region. This talk will be given by Archivist and St. Joseph County Historian Travis Childs.
