Filmmaker Ken Burns and Composer Caroline Shaw explore the genius of Leonardo da VinciKen Burns will screen clips from his forthcoming documentary on Leonardo da Vinci, and Caroline Shaw, who composed the original score for the film, will join Roomful of Teeth, Attacca Quartet, and Sō Percussion to perform selections from the soundtrack.
ABOUT KEN BURNS
Ken Burns has been making documentary films for almost fifty years. Since the Academy Award nominated Brooklyn Bridge in 1981, Ken has gone on to direct and produce some of the most acclaimed historical documentaries ever made, including The Civil War; Baseball; Jazz; The War; The National Parks: America’s Best Idea; Prohibition; The Roosevelts: An Intimate History; The Vietnam War; Country Music; The U.S. and the Holocaust; and, most recently, The American Buffalo.
Future film projects include Leonardo da Vinci, The American Revolution, Emancipation to Exodus, and LBJ & the Great Society,among others.
Ken’s films have been honored with dozens of major awards, including seventeen Emmy Awards, two Grammy Awards and two Oscar nominations. In September of 2008, at the News & Documentary Emmy Awards, Ken was honored by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with a Lifetime Achievement Award. In November of 2022, Ken was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame.
ABOUT CAROLINE SHAW
Caroline Shaw is a musician who moves among roles, genres, and mediums, trying to imagine a world of sound that has never been heard before but has always existed. She is the recipient of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Music, several Grammy awards, an honorary doctorate from Yale, and a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. She has worked with a range of artists including Rosalía, Renée Fleming, and Yo-Yo Ma, and she has contributed music to films and TV series including Fleishman Is in Trouble, Bombshell, Yellowjackets, Maid, Dark, Beyoncé’s Homecoming, and Ken Burns’ upcoming LEONARDO da VINCI. In addition to her albums with Sō, Nonesuch has released her two Grammy-winning albums Orange (2019) and Evergreen (2022), both of which feature Attacca Quartet. “Two-Step,” the first of Shaw’s songs with Ringdown, her duo with Danni Lee, to be released on Nonesuch is available now. Caroline Shaw was just announced as Wigmore Hall’s 2024-25 Composer in Residence.
