Join us outside!
Inside/Out: Adventure MaineWe are delighted to celebrate Maine in the fall with a day -- or weekend -- of outdoor adventure. Join us to walk, hike, or mountain bike and enjoy visiting Maine’s western mountains during foliage season while learning about landscape architecture and Maine’s Scenic Byways Program. We’ll visit MaineDOT / Byway Community Partners' completed projects as we explore a few of the region’s premiere natural areas.
Led by
Lawrence Johannesman, ASLA, Maine DOT
All are welcome, members and non-members, families and friends.
Join us for the morning, for the afternoon, or for the whole weekend! There's an option for an overnight campout, followed by a Sunday morning bike ride or hike on your own.
Tickets are free, with registration strongly requested for coordination and communication purposes. Sign up today!
PROPOSED ITINERARY
Saturday, October 15
Saturday Morning:
Meet at 8:00am at the new Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust (RLHT) Sandy River Scenic Turnout on Route 4 in Madrid, ME.
- Small Falls Rest Area
- Rangeley Lakes Region w/boat
- Noyes Overlook
- Height of Land Scenic Turnout
- Cascade Gorge Stream Trail / Byway Wayfinding Signage
- Whip Willow Scenic Turnout
- Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust Office
- Rangeley Town Park / Proposed Lake to Loop Trail / Lunch
Saturday Afternoon:
Regroup at 1:00pm at the Rangely Lakes Heritage Trust Hatchery Brook site
- RLHT Hatchery Brook Short Hike
- Drive Up Quill Hill Route 16 ($ donation at gate)
- Oquossoc Village Tour / Outdoor Sporting Heritage Museum
- Noyes Scenic Overlook
- New MaineDOT Route 17 Scenic Turnout
- Sunset Hang at Height of Land Scenic Turnout

Make it a weekend...All are invited to make it a weekend of Maine landscape adventure.
Saturday Overnight: Optional camping ($) at Cupsuptic Campground / Rangeley Lakes State Park or on your own.

Choose your own adventure. Explore in a small group or on your own. A few suggestions:
Mountain Bike at Saddleback / Rangeley Trails Center ($)
Hike Bald Mountain
Explore a RLHT Conservation Area

Please Note:
If you've made it this far -- hooray! We're psyched that you share our sense of landscape architecture adventure.
The itinerary above is flexible and subject to change based on group interest, weather etc.
We will communicate with all ticket holders by email to confirm logistics and other details.
Each participant is expected to cover their own campground and entry donations, where required.
Bring water, food, and snacks for a full day of exploring. Rangeley and Oquossoc have places to get food to go as well.
