Join the BNHS team for an overnight camp inside the BNHS Nature Reserve ie. the CEC.With the monsoons just behind us, there is a boom in insect populations. We have planned for an overnight camp to get upfront with the insect world. Through the camp, participants will exposed to learning, searching and observing insects. The camp will be led by our expert naturalists and entomologists who have curated the experience and will ensure top-notch learning.
The participants (max. 22) will stay at the CEC which is located on a 33 acres of forest land abutting the SGNP. During the camp we will be demonstrating and using various field techniques to attract and observe insects through the camp in a completely safe and harmless way. The camp will also provide plenty of opportunities to interact and learn from the experts and photograph insects in the wild.
So, get ready with your torches, cameras and notebooks as we go on exploring the invertebrate world in the wild backyard of Mumbai.
Camp Costs: Rs. 2,750 per head for non-members. Rs. 2,500 per head for BNHS members.
Camp inclusions: all meals (simple hygienic food, tea and coffee, snacks during the camp), all charges for experts and naturalists, safety goggles for each participant, a unique BNHS memorabilia, field guides to Insects, Butterflies and Moths of the BNHS Reserve, Clean mattress, bed-cover, pillows and sheets for sleeping, all venue charges.
Maximum Participants: 22 persons. On first come basis.

Assemble at the CEC: 05.00 PM
Registrations and Ice Breakers: 05.15 PM to 05.30 PM
Tea and Coffee to be served: 05.30 PM
Introduction to Insects - AV show: 05.40 PM to 06.45 PM
Refreshments: 06.45 PM to 07.00 PM
Setting up Different Insect Traps: 07.15 PM to 08.15 PM
DINNER 08.30 PM to 09.15 PM
Night Trail for Insects: 09.15 PM to 10.15 PM
Observing Insects at Light Traps: 10.15 PM to 11.00 PM
Lights Out. 11.00 PM

WAKE UP CALL 05.30 AM
Freshening UP, Tea/Coffee: 05.30 AM to 06.15 AM
Nature Trail in the BNHS Reserve: 06.30 AM to 08.45 AM
BREAKFAST: 09.00 AM
Feedback and Discussions: 09.00 AM to 10.00 AM
DEPART: 10.15 AM
Points to be noted:
1. Sleeping facility is in separate for males and females.
2. Clean bed-sheets, mattresses, covers and pillow covers will be provided for the camp.
3. Separate toilet blocks for males and females exist in the center building.
4. Do get your personal toilet accessories.
5. Clean, hygienic and homely food (vegetarian) food will be served in the camp.
6. The camp will be accompanied by 3 naturalists and 3 volunteers who would be present throughout.
7. Our guards will also accompany the group especially for the night walk.
8. Please carry some insect repellents for protection against mosquitos.
9. Safety goggles will be provided for each participant at the light traps.
10. Wear full clothes and a good pair of walking shoes.
11. Carry your water bottle, which you can refill at CEC.
About the Naturalists
- Ms. Drashti Danani: A keen naturalist and a trained entomologist, Drashti is a PhD. Scholar at the working on Beetles in the SGNP. She has a keen eye and a sharp. Instinct to find and study insects and she is equally passionate in her efforts to try and make more people fall in love with insects.
- Mr. Shardul Bajikar: A bard for the wilderness, Shardul is a experienced naturalist and communicator who is a part of the CEC education team. His core interest is insects and invertebrate life.
About Conservation Education Center (CEC): The CEC is a privately protected forest area adjoining the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai. Spread over 33 acres of natural forest, the center has numerous nature trails that crisscross over a variety of different habitats and provide plenty of opportunities for engaging with the wilderness. In the center building, it has spacious rooms for dormitory accommodations separately for males and females. Separate hygiene facilities for males and females are available in the center. The area is guarded round the clock by our private guards.
