Insect Pinning 101 - Owl Butterfly

The class will give the participant all the basics to prepare butterfly and moth specimens for mounting. Topics will include butterfly anatomy, specimen sourcing, tools, rehydration, pinning, and display techniques. Each participant will receive one rehydrated practice butterfly and one rehydrated Owl Butterfly (Caligo teucer semicaerculea), pins, and one shadow box for display. This tuype of specimen is South American and has a 4-5 inch wingspan when dried.
