About this Event
Join us at the Southern Food & Beverage Museum for an evening celebrating the stories, history, and flavors that define New Orleans. Historian and curator Theresa McCulla will discuss her new book, Insatiable City: Food and Race in New Orleans, in conversation with Liz Williams, founder of the Southern Food & Beverage Museum.
About the Book
Insatiable City is a cultural history of New Orleans and its people told through the lens of food. It explores how the sensory pleasures of eating and drinking in the Crescent City are rooted in histories of both creativity and violence—and how Black New Orleanians, across generations, have used food and food work to build autonomy, belonging, and joy for themselves and their communities.
Named a Best Book of 2024 by Smithsonian Magazine and nominated for a 2025 James Beard Book Award, Insatiable City offers a profound, beautifully written look at the power of food in shaping identity and history.
