About this Event
INVITE ONLY
The Committee of Climate-Resilient California and Californians (CRC2) cordially invites you to attend the Innovate Locally to Inspire Change Globally Summit. This Summit aims to elevate human well-being and ecosystem resilience as paramount priorities in climate action. For further information on CRC2, including details of its transdisciplinary team, please refer to the CRC2 website.
The summit will convene a diverse coalition of researchers, mayors, community leaders, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs to engage in critical discussions about the profound impacts of climate change on our communities. Participants will collaborate on developing comprehensive climate resilience strategies that address:
• The mental and public health implications of climate-related challenges.
• The loss of homes and livelihoods due to environmental changes.
• The effects of droughts and floods on agriculture, forests, and water security.
• The implications of forced migration within California and across borders.
This gathering is the inaugural event in a series of regional summits aimed at implementing the recommendations outlined in the Call to Action, which was signed by Pope Francis and various mayors and governors, including Governor Newsom, during a summit at the Vatican in May 2024. CRC2 is committed to fostering collaboration among city and state leaders, researchers, and environmental NGOs, with a vision of emerging as a Climate Resilient California and Californians.
Our innovative MAST strategy emphasizes equal attention to Mitigation, Adaptation, and Societal Transformation. This summit is an integral part of 10 regional summits that will be held during 2025 under the sponsorship of the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. Dr. Ramanathan and Dr. Suarez-Orozco will lead this program, which will be overseen by a task force made up of members from the two Pontifical Academies of Sciences and local leaders involved in organizing the 10 regional summits. The summit will contribute to a broader initiative culminating in a global summit at the Vatican in 2026, where we will release a universal protocol for Climate Resilience.
Join us in shaping a resilient future and catalyzing a Global Movement of Climate Change Resilience, engaging stakeholders from local mayors and council members to state and national leaders.
If you are unable to attend, we would be pleased to have your deputy mayor, a council member, or a board of supervisor member join us to represent your community.
Please mark your calendars and confirm your participation using this link to participate in this essential dialogue on climate resilience.
