INMO Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation course for nurses and midwives

This programme provides guidance to participants in the skill of peripheral intravenous cannulation. Instruction will be provided on the sites used for peripheral intravenous cannulation, identifying criteria for evaluating a vein and the principles of an aseptic technique. The aim is for participants to be able to carry out the procedure in a competent and safe manner. While this course will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to undertake peripheral intravenous cannulation, it will be necessary for each nurse and midwife attending to ensure that they abide by their local policy on peripheral intravenous cannulation in their place of work.Participants are also required to hold the following: Hand Hygiene training certification (within the last 2 years); Management and administration of Intravenous drugs certification (within the last 2 years) and a Management of Anaphylaxis certification(within the last 2 years)
