Ink and Mixed Media Haiku Concertina Books with Dagmara Rudkin

In this playful and relaxed weekend course, you will respond to micro-poems and explore traditional and experimental ink drawing, painting, creative typography, collage and mono printing techniques to create figurative or semi abstract imagery. You will then combine your artwork together with words to make a one-off artist's book: a poetic contemplation of transient landscapes.

This course is suitable for all levels including beginners and is particularly suitable for anyone interested in illustration or storytelling through Fine Art practice.

Basic art materials will be provided. As ideas unfold over the weekend students may want to use their own materials. Dagmara can give advice about any additional materials on the first day.

Dagmara Rudkin is a Phoenix-based Polish-British fine artist who creates paintings, drawings, collages and 3D mixed media work using predominantly discarded materials and objects to re-tell stories of real and imagined people, places and their relationships. Over the past 20 years, she has produced personal and collaborative projects with poets, theatre professionals, and film-makers, worked as an artist-in-residence, and held exhibitions in the South East. Currently, she specializes in shroud making for green and traditional burials, utilizing the emotive power of storytelling through textiles to honour rites of passage and commemorate the sacred.

Dagmara holds a Joint Honours degree in Painting and Glass, an MA in Sequential Design and Illustration, and a PGCE in Art and Design. She works as an artist educator at Hastings Contemporary and as an Associate Lecturer at Greater Brighton Metropolitan College.
