Presentation Topic: When Malware Crosses the Air Gap: An Interactive Incident Response Scenario for OT Networks
Speaker: Gabriel Sanchez, Global Director, SOC Operations & Incident Response
Speaker Bio: Gabriel Sanchez holds a Master’s in Information Security Engineering from the SANS Technology Institute, SANSx10, CompTIA SME, PMP, and CISSP. With extensive expertise, he is a Cyber Bootcamp Lead Instructor, oversees a Global Incident Response team and runs the Industrial Control System (ICS) Security Operation Center (SOC) for multinational clients with 1898 & Co. With a 20+ year career in cybersecurity, Gabriel is an expert in running Security Operation Centers and Incident Response teams across diverse sectors, including banking, utilities, and government entities.
Abstract: Cybersecurity in operational technology (OT) environments presents unique challenges, especially when dealing with potential malware infections. In this interactive session, we’ll explore a high-stakes scenario where infected files are inadvertently introduced into an OT network. Together, we’ll examine critical questions:
- How do you detect the infection before it spreads?
- What containment strategies ensure minimal disruption to operations?
- How do you balance rapid response with regulatory compliance and operational safety?
This session invites participants to step into the role of an incident responder, brainstorm potential strategies, and discuss real-world implications with their peers. Designed to foster collaboration and practical insights, this is a must-attend for professionals passionate about safeguarding ICS environments.
Parking: Complimentary validation for the covered parking garage will be provided. Attendees can park in any of the spaces marked “Visitor” or on floors 3 – 9. Please ask attendees to pull a ticket and bring with you for validation during the meeting.
Open discussion after the presentation is encouraged with questions and answers, so be ready to participate!
We hope you can join us for this informative session.
