Information is Beautiful Awards Ceremony

This year’s IIB Awards Ceremony will bring back the elegance, enthusiasm, fun, and whimsy of Awards Ceremonies past. Data visualization enthusiasts from around the world will gather November 30th in Washington DC and can, for the first time, join the event virtually through our Awards Ceremony livestream!

About the Awards

Every year, hundreds of visualizations are submitted to the Awards. Our judges review each entrant for how well it suits the medium (infographic, interactive, data visualization and more) & how well it illuminates the topic: Arts, Entertainment & Culture, Current Affairs & Politics, Places, Spaces & Environment, People, Language & Identity, Science, Technology & Health, Humanitarian, Leisure, Games & Sport, and Unusual.

This year for 2022, we’re excited to bring back many of the categories folks know and love, and to add and update categories with the goal that any data visualization practitioner can see an opportunity to submit their work for consideration for an award. The new categories are Business Analytics and an annual special theme, which for 2022 will be COVID-19 visualizations.

Those attending in person will enjoy a festive evening mingling with data visualization creators and leaders, snacking on small bites and sipping celebratory drinks. Don’t miss the opportunity to be there live as we announce the big winners, snap photos with your viz friends and celebrate all of the incredible shortlistees and Special Awards nominees. Any data visualization enthusiast can purchase a ticket to the Awards Ceremony, though the number of paid tickets available will be limited based on event capacity.

Virtual attendees can join the celebration with the livestream, hosted to make the excitement of the evening more globally accessible. Join in real time and chat with fellow attendees, or register as virtual attendees to have first access to all of the details to watch the Awards Ceremony asynchronously if time zones create challenges with live viewing.

Attending the Awards is an opportunity to meet leaders in data visualization. Past awards ceremonies have been attended by designers from Tableau, Thomson Reuters, Nesta, British Medical Journal, Density Design Research Lab, Deloitte, and more.

Event tickets are offered at two tiers. Registering for the livestream is pay-what-you-can, in an effort to make the event accessible for anyone regardless of their ability to pay.

Two days of engaging data viz workshops

To expand the celebration of data visualization excellence around the Awards Ceremony this year, DVS will be hosting two days of workshops leading up to the big event. Tuesday (November 29th) will focus on learning: hands on skill building in different data viz tools, highlighting how design processes differ across tools. Wednesday (November 30th) will focus on inspiration with speakers talking about the data visualization industry, current sticky challenges we face as practitioners, and design excellence. Ticket information and a full agenda will be available soon, with options for virtual attendance and a limited number of seats at the events in Washington DC.
