Info Session: Summer Art Conservation Internship (UDelxHBCU Alliance)

Come learn about the summer 2023 internship opportunity with the University of Delaware Winterthur Museum and the Alliance of HBCU Museums and Galleries.

Funded by a $500,000 two-year grant with the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, this initiative builds on the successful seven-year partnership between the Alliance for HBCU Museums and Galleries and the University of Delaware Department of Art Conservation, that has introduced HBCU students to the profession of art conservation.

The six-week Introduction to Practical Conservation (SIP-C) will accommodate ten HBCU students who have successfully participated in previous conservation programming. SIP-C will include two weeks of cohort training on conservation fundamentals at Winterthur Museum followed by four-week internships at five conservation laboratories, including Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library and the Brooklyn Museum.

AUC Art faculty and students across several majors are strongly encouraged to attend. Acceptable majors include, but are not limited to: museum studies, conservation studies, art history, anthropology, archaeology, paleontology, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, ecology, earth sciences, chemical engineering, and materials science engineering.

This information session will be led by Christopher Smothers (Clark Atlanta University C'2022), who participated in an HBCU Aliiance affiliated program at the Princeton University Art Museum in Summer 2022.
