From the ashes of profound loss rose Infinite Third, the ever-evolving musical project of Atlanta-based artist Billy Mays III. The pseudonym embodies an inner duality; "Infinite" evokes a connection to higher consciousness, while "Third" grounds it in human vulnerability. This tension fuels his immersive soundscapes, which often feature cascading layers of ethereal guitar, primal rhythms, pulsing drones, and electronic textures that surge into towering walls of emotion.
Rooted in visceral improvisation, his music somehow manages to channel ancient energies into deeply personal catharsis, guiding listeners through transcendent journeys that feel alive, and unpredictably open. The origin story of Infinite Third is one of resilience. In 2009, a devastating apartment fire destroyed everything Mays owned, including every last piece of music equipment. As he slowly rebuilt with a stripped-down guitar setup, redefining his creative voice in minimalism and emotional honesty, another blow struck: the sudden passing of his father, iconic TV personality Billy Mays. From a cocoon of grief emerged his debut album Gently, a surprisingly hopeful collection of songs that marked the birth of Infinite Third and turned his private healing process into a soundtrack for self-therapy.
Over the past 15+ years, Infinite Third has assembled a prolific body of work—dozens of LPs, EPs, and improvised sketches totaling over 24 hours. His evocative compositions have inspired creators across disciplines, soundtracking films, visual art, and introspective practices worldwide.
In the live setting, Infinite Third transforms into a ritual of sonic and spiritual discovery.
