Prisma Health - Healthy Start (Midlands and Upstate) invites you to a thought-provoking event pertaining to maternal and infant mortality. You’ll hear from dynamic speakers on a mission to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
Earn CEU's during this event that will address health disparities among African American mothers dying due to complications around childbirth as well as a look at the details surrounding death scenes for mothers and infants.
Come hear our Featured Speaker (Wanda Irving) as she sheds light on maternal mortality through her voice as the voice of her beloved daughter -Dr. Shalon Irving.
Wanda Irving, MPA is forever the mother of Dr. Shalon Irving and Co-Founder of Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project (DSMAP), Inc.
DSMAP is a community driven, non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating Black maternal health disparities. The organization was established to honor Wanda’s daughter, Dr. Shalon, who passed away from preventable pregnancy complications in January 2017, three weeks after giving birth to her only child. Dr. Shalon was a brilliant researcher and fierce health equity champion.
