"Black Obsidian" is a powerful 1-hour play that follows the journey of Bryce, a young Black
man navigating profound struggles with loss, identity, and societal expectations. After
losing both parents at a young age, Bryce confronts challenges related to his sexual identity
and experiences family rejection and societal pressures that lead to a deep sense of
isolation. This narrative beautifully illustrates themes of homelessness, societal
stereotypes, and the pursuit of self-acceptance and resilience, particularly within the
LGBTQ+ community.
Through compelling storytelling, "Black Obsidian" seeks to foster open discussions about
the unique struggles faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, emphasizing the importance of
community support, love, and acceptance. This production serves as a powerful reminder
of the transformative impact of embracing one's true self amid adversity.
This show will be directed by Alicia Sims and Sam Hill.
