INDUSTRIAL DISCOTHEQUE ** - It is incredible. And it's surreal. When I started PANOPTIKON in May 2006, I was newly sober for nearly 3 years, out of touch with Dallas nightlife and largely starting over may ways. What I really missed the most was the big boom of the nightclub. I loved dance clubs. Still do.
PANOPTIKON was launched in the iconic, former Club ONE location in Deep Ellum. Over the years, we moved to quite a few venues: Quixoticworld (for one night), Cherry's, Xclusive at Maple & Wycliff, Elm St. Bar (Deep Ellum), The Globe on Riverfront, The Lizard Lounge for a few months, Red Light (now The Nine's), our space downtown on Pearl & Elm, post-pandemic - House of Blues for a few nights (They actually offered us every Friday in the restaurant that was no longer in use.), and our home today, the legendary, over-century old and haunted, Sons of Hermann Hall.
Looking back to the early days, I can think of so many people we came to know and love who are no longer with us on Fridays for one reason or another. And yet, there are people we still see today who were there when PANOPTIKON first got its start. What's just as amazing is our incredible alternative community of dark dance fanatics (PAN-addicts) that make up Dallas' gothic/alternative nightlife.
Both Michelle at the door and Son of Sam in the DJ booth have been on the PAN for most of the 20 years. DJ Red Vamp came on board about a decade ago. The go go dancers formed soon thereafter. We have an amazing team and the best dark dance Friday night party in Dallas. A million thanks to the PAN team, our host venue(s), our scene photogs (Tony Morales, Mark Kaplan & Scott Fischer) and the PAN FAM for an incredible 20 year party!
