Lydene fra New York
Alle sanserne bliver stimuleret i denne by.
English:
“She enchants people … with the virtuosic use of her voice. Articulation and modulation rest in the finest detail, while she sings, jubilates, whispers and squeals with fine intonation.
– Stuttgarter Zeitung

“Riehen experienced a great, soulful moment not only in 2018, but in the entire 25-year history of the festival.”
– Badische Zeitung, 2018 – Stimmen Festival

Indra Rios-Moore’s 2015 Impulse! debut, “Heartland”, produced by Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Melody Gardot), received rave reviews throughout Europe and was named one of the best jazz albums of the year by London’s Sunday Times and The London Telegraph. Her single “Little Black Train” was Nr. 1 on the iTunes jazz charts in France, Germany and Denmark. Telerama of France declared that hers was the “celestial voice of jazz”. In 2016, she won the BMW Jazz Welt Award. Her 2018 Verve France follow up, Carry My Heart, produced by Jay Newland (Norah Jones) was on numerous best of the year lists and went Top 5 on the jazz charts in Denmark, France and Germany.

Freedom Road was recorded shortly before the pandemic but it is clear, from the spirit of the album that it is meant for now. Indra’s self-penned “Gimme Some of that Joy” encapsulates the spirit of her new album, Freedom Road. She sings, “I’m letting go of that sorrow, I want me some of that happiness. I’m looking for the Brightside, I’m ready for some good times...Gimme some of that Joy!” with the clarity of someone who knows she can create what she is asking for.

In her own words, “Perhaps it was a subliminal message to my inner self but I found myself singing Oscar Brown Jr. ‘s, “Long as You’re Living” around the house. The song is literally a laundry list of things that everyone should do if they want to seize the day and live a meaningful life. From there, all of the other songs fell into place. I definitely felt the urge to make music that would lift the spirit and call us all to live with purpose.”
“Freedom Road”, is a cover of the song musician/activist Josh White wrote to accompany Langston Hughes’ poem “Freedom Road”. Originally penned as a poem/song to inspire African Americans to enlist in the service during WWII, Indra has changed a couple of key words to update the song for the present day. Instead of being a handed a gun, the protagonist is handed a voting ballot.

Along with two original songs, “Gimme Some of that Joy” and “Oh Love”, Freedom Road is in keeping with Indra’s past eclecticism, with a track list that includes Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down”, the classic folk song “Keep on the Sunnyside”, Josh White’s “Freedom Road”, the gospel song/civil rights anthem “Eyes on the Prize”, the jazz standards “There’ll be some Changes” & "Long As You're Living", the much beloved “You are so beautiful” as well as a lesser known Marvin Gaye song, “Walk on the Wildside”. Freedom Road is a testament to personal power, positivity and love.
