Indoor Archery Tournament Rules
This tournament will follow IBO (International Bowhunting Organization) rules with modifications for our unique setup, which includes 15 3D stationary targets and 1 moving target. Below are the rules and guidelines to ensure fairness, safety, and fun for all participants.
1. Range Safety Rules
All participants must follow the instructions of event organizers, range safety officers (RSOs), or tournament officials at all times.
No shooting until the range is declared “HOT” by an official. Participants must cease all shooting immediately when the range is declared “COLD.”
Always point bows and arrows downrange, even when not actively shooting. Never point an arrow at another person.
Arrows may only be nocked on the shooting line and after the official “begin shooting” signal is given.
Absolutely no dry firing (shooting a bow without an arrow), as it can damage the bow and pose a safety risk.
Wait for the signal before retrieving arrows, and remain behind the shooting line until all participants have finished shooting.
2. Equipment Requirements
All participants must use safe and approved archery equipment. Bows must be inspected prior to shooting to ensure they are in proper working condition.
Field points (target tips) only. Broadheads or other dangerous arrow tips are strictly prohibited.
Participants should bring their own bows and arrows. A limited supply of loaner equipment will be available.
If equipment failure occurs during the tournament, notify a judge or official immediately for assistance.
3. Scoring and Target Rules
15 3D Stationary Targets:
Targets will simulate animals or objects, positioned at varying distances and angles. Each target has a designated scoring ring: 11 (center), 10, 8, and 5 (body shot). A complete miss scores 0.
Arrows must remain in the target to count. Scores are determined by the position of the arrow’s shaft.
1 Moving Target:
The moving target will have similar scoring zones. Participants will get one attempt per turn and must shoot when prompted.
Scores will be tracked by designated officials or scorekeepers. Participants are encouraged to verify their scores after each round.
In the event of a tie, the highest single-round score will determine the winner. If still tied, a shoot-off will be conducted.
4. Youth and Beginner Rules
Youth participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for supervision.
Beginners are encouraged to participate but must attend a safety orientation before the tournament begins. Event staff and volunteers will be available to assist new shooters.
5. Tournament Layout
15 Scoring 3D Targets: Positioned at varying distances and angles to simulate real-world scenarios.
1 Moving Target: Designed to challenge timing and precision.
6. Divisions
1. Adult Division (16 and older)
Compound Bow
Traditional Bow (Recurve/Longbow)
2. Youth Division (Under 16)
All bow types welcome.
7. Awards and Recognition
Top Scorers: Awards for the highest scores in each division.
Special Recognition: Prizes for most improved archer and standout performance on the moving target.
By participating in the tournament, you agree to follow these rules and the general policies of Valley Veterans ReCreation. Let’s have a safe and exciting day of archery!
