About this Event

Indigo Sessions is a collective show series, founded by Aliyah Jones, created to highlight the artistry of Black Women. Inspired by her own experiences and the noticeable absence of spaces that truly uplift and celebrate Black Women in the arts, Aliyah envisioned the series to embody a sanctuary where Our voices and stories could be nurtured.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

Anaiet is a contemporary artist whose music is heavily influenced by Jazz, Gospel, Neo-Soul, RnB and Folk music. Their music is inspired by the stories of all of our lives and the belief that the human experience is one worth heavily documenting. She seeks to encapsulate these experiences in a medium that has proven to withstand the test of time. Piano, Guitar and Voice have been their creature comforts and have sustained their interest and curiosity throughout their music career. They've been a dedicated student of music for about 15 years, studying many iterations of Classical Piano, Jazz, Gospel, Rnb, Blues, Rock and most recently Folk; which they believe have all impacted the lyricism, processes, and performance of their art. @anaiet.soul
Carmani Edwards is a bassist and composer born and raised in Chicago. A lifelong creative, their focus shifted from visual arts to sonic, taking up the electric bass in their high school jazz band, and adopting the acoustic bass not long after. They have been rooted in Chicago’s vibrant music scene ever since—graduating from DePaul University’s Jazz Studies program, playing in late night jam sessions and early morning Sunday services. Their arrangements dwell in moments in time, drawing on themes of faith, heartache, healing, and the duality that underpins it all. Moody, melodic, and grounded in a captivating feel, you can find them sharing her sound all throughout the city. @__mani_mani
Aliyah Jones is a vocalist, composer, and writer based in Chicago, IL. The importance of music was instilled in her at an early age. Every milestone, celebration, or simple journey to school was scored with anything from the sultry serenades of Whitney Houston to the invigorating bounce of house music. Aliyah began her formal training at the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artist and most recently graduated from the Jazz Studies program at DePaul University. Her focus is now centered around The Indigo Sessions, a space for those marginalized to tell their stories and share their creations.
