About this Event

Kevin "Church" Johnson released his first EP, Kashmere, Sweaters and Bowties, at the Blue Room in 2017, a record he wrote, performed, and produced himself. His site says the release show sold out.

His site tells the rest. He started playing drums and singing in the Black church at 10, and that's where he developed his pocket. He plays keys and guitar too. Besides the Ginuwine job, he's played for Roy Ayers, Raheem DeVaughn, and Ro James, produces for rap and hip-hop artists, and sings hooks on Kansas City rap records.

The same year as that EP, he sang guest vocals on "Cold," a cover of Nick Hakim's song on Hermon Mehari's album Bleu. Under his own name, he released Brown Liquor Music in 2022 and We Found Us in 2023. ArtsKC funded a project of that name with spoken-word artist Natasha Ria El-Scari and called it "a conceptual collaboration of spoken word, R&B, Hip Hop and more." His earlier records came out under the name Church Boii.
