About this Event
Indigo has long traveled with Black people across continents—used for healing, ritual, labor, and art. In this tactile workshop, participants will engage in indigo dyeing, create a unique pattern for a community art piece that will be displayed in the Market at 7th Street, and receive individual indigo dye kits sourced from Nebedaye Farms, learning about the plant’s African origins and its role in Black history across the Americas. This workshop connects art-making to agricultural knowledge and ancestral technology, cohosted with Red Rice Books.
Participants will:
- Learn the cultural and botanical history of indigo
- Dye a personal textile item to take home
- Reflect on indigo as both a healing plant and a symbol of transformation
Note: Young participants are not allowed without adult supervision.
