About this Event

Aaniin, Kwe, Bozho, Hello!

The Ontario Network Environments for Indigenous Health Research (ON NEIHR) and the Network for Aboriginal Mental Health Research (NAMHR) is excited to welcome you to the annual 2026 Research Intensive Workshop! Registration is now open for this free, three-day research intensive.

Here’s what you need to know:

Who? This workshop is meant for Indigenous graduate students as well as those who work in the Indigenous community, work directly with, or provide care to Indigenous Peoples. We’re hoping that this broad audience scope allows a diversity of perspectives, as well as reach for translating the needs of Indigenous communities to directly transform the care for the community.

When? From July 21 until July 23, this three-day workshop will be delivering a series of lectures at the University of Toronto St. George Campus. Out of town? No worries – we’re offering virtual options for those out of town.

Where? With a hybrid event, we’ll meet by Zoom and in-person at the Askaakamigokwewigamig (Mother Earth Learning Lodge) located at 20 Willcocks St, St. George Campus, Toronto, ON.

Learning Structure. The workshop is scheduled from 9:00am - 4:30pm. Each day brings a morning workshop (9:00am-12:00pm) and an afternoon workshop (1:30-4:30pm), with each session being led by leading researchers in Indigenous health care and research.

A certificate of completion will be provided to add support for your learning journey and support your care efforts. Please note that attendees may register for individual days if they’re unable to attend the entire workshop. However, attendees must attend the entire workshop series to receive their certificate.

Topics: workshop presenters will cover topics such as decolonizing research, evidence-based medicine, Indigenizing mental health, community-driven research, and how Indigenous voices can, and need to, guide, direct, and drive Indigenous health outcomes.

Our workshop presenters:

· Dr. Rod McCormick, C. Psych, Kanienkehaka (Mohawk) psychologist, professor and research chair at Thomson Rivers University
