Indie Poetry at Dunaway Books welcomes New Jersey poet Damian Rucci, New York poet, Nathanael Stolte, and New York City poet Scott Laudati as they mix it up with some of the best and brightest from St. Louis including Kristin J. Thompson, Daniel W. Wright, Denmark Laine, Jessie Eikmann, and Jared C. Lewis!
Damian Rucci is a true poet's poet who leads the New Jersey Poetry Renaissance with his sarcastic, angry musings just happens to also give the reader some harsh insight into the ‘Poet” life. He’s published a bunch of stuff…google him. He’s put in the work; done the time…he’s always a good read. If he’s not educating you, at least he’s entertaining you. Most importantly, when he tells you, “Poets will lie to you and drink all your booze,” you can trust him that he’s telling the absolute truth. In February, he and other members of the New Jersey Poetry Renaissance will be featured in the PBS Documentary, "Voices in the Garden."
Nathanael Stolte hails from Buffalo, New York where he currently hangs his hat. He works part time at a local community college and part time as the Tour Manager for the NYC ska/reggae band, The Slackers. Stolte’s poems and artwork have appeared in various print and digital publications. Stolte is the author of several chapbooks and Shoot the Alligators Closest to the Boat (Stubborn Mule, 2019), and Beggar’s Songbook (Spartan Press, 2021). Stolte is a sober alcoholic, flower punk, rust belt artist. He replies to emails at [email protected]
Scott Laudati is the author of Play The Devil, Hawaiian Shirts In The Electric Chair, and Bone House. He has written fiction/poetry for The Good Men Project, Thought Catalog, Medium, Trebuchet-Magazine and many others. He lives in New York City with his boxer, Satine.
Daniel W. Wright is an award-nominated poet and fiction writer. He most recently wrote the foreword for Sacred Decay: The Art of Lauren Marx (Dark Horse, 2021). He is the author of eight collections of poetry, including Love Letters from the Underground (Spartan Press, 2021), Rodeo of the Soul (Spartan Press, 2019), and Murder City Special (Bad Jacket, 2017). His work has appeared in print journals such as The Literary Parrot, BUK100, 365 Days, and Gasconade Review, as well as online journals such as Book of Matches. He currently resides in St. Louis, MO, where you can usually find him in a bar or a bookstore.
Kristin J. Thompson is an author and alternative film photographer and processor who is currently pursuing a career in Archaeology. When Kristin is not writing, she is reading, traveling, sipping hot tea with her cat Abby, and searching for new ways to restore local cemeteries. Glow Worm is her third collection of poetry, following two other volumes called "Into Blue" and "Cords". "Glow Worm" is a collection that explores the dynamic between young women and the societal & romantic pressures placed upon them.
Denmark Laine was born in St. Louis. A freelance writer, poet, music critic, playwright, and "cocky, half-educated punk." He has a BFA from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and is the author of The American Paranoid Society (2022), The Absinthe Fountain (Spartan Press, 2021) Thorazine Ice Cream Parlor (Spartan Press, 2019), Gods of Autumn (2018), and Exile on Cherokee Street (2018).
Jessie Eikmann graduated with an MFA from UMSL in 2019. Her work has most recently appeared in the St. Louis anthology, Strange Tales from Cherokee Street (Spartan Press, 2022) as well as Sou'wester and Unbroken Magazine. In 2019, Bad Jacket Press published a chapbook of her poems, The Kiss of Complicity, which she describes as "letters to all the people who disappointed me in my life."
Jared C. Lewis is a rising local poet who recently released his debut poetry collection, Quarantine Chronicles (LouPress, 2021). He is currently working on a second collection and has become a popular poet at Joe's Café.
Frances Garren is an up and coming local poet who released her debut collection, "Back Eye Reason to Die" in 2017 on Bad Jacket Press. She is currently working on her follow-up.
