The Indiana Child Safety Call-In Day is a statewide event designed to mobilize parents, community members, and nonprofit organizations to advocate for meaningful child safety legislation.This year, we are focusing on:
• Updating Indiana’s bullying definition to better protect students in all schools
• Creating statewide school district checks and balances to ensure laws are enforced consistently
• Bridging gaps in communication between schools and DCS to prevent children from falling through the cracksWho Can Participate?
• Individuals: Residents of Indiana may advocate for child safety legislation on their own behalf, outside of their professional roles. If your employer restricts advocacy through work channels, you are still encouraged to participate independently as a concerned Indiana resident. Don’t allow yourself to be silenced; it is your right!
• Faith leaders: Encouraged to bring their communities’ voices to support child safety initiatives in our state.
• Nonprofit organizations: Indiana law explicitly allows nonprofits to engage in advocacy on child safety issues. Under Indiana Code § 6-1.1-11-5.1, nonprofit organizations may participate in legislative advocacy, including contacting legislators and promoting awareness of policy issues, as long as it does not constitute substantial lobbying beyond the law’s allowances.
o A 501(c)(3) nonprofit can support or oppose legislation if it is an insubstantial part of its overall activities (generally interpreted as up to 5–10% of total activities).

Event Details
• Time: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM (Lunch Provided from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)

Activities Include:
o Information on how to effectively contact legislators, relay your support, and share your story (if applicable)
o Opportunities to call or meet with state lawmakers to advocate for child safety reforms
o Lunch and networking with other parents, survivors, and advocates
