About this Event
Experience an extraordinary evening of Indian classical music featuring the rare and evocative sound of the Indian Slide Guitar, accompanied by the masterful rhythms of tabla.
The evening will open with a full Raga recital, an unhurried journey through the complete classical format, beginning with a meditative Alaap, building through the rhythmic momentum of Jod and Jod Jhala, before unfolding into a Vilambit composition in slow tempo and culminating in the exhilarating Drut Teentaal and Jhala.
The second half will feature a shorter Raga in Madhya Laya (medium tempo), followed by a concluding Dhun in Raag Kirwani — a melodic and soulful close to the evening that bridges classical tradition with lyrical lightness.
Artists
Rhitom Sarkar — Indian Slide Classical Guitar
One of India's most distinctive voices on the slide guitar, Rhitom Sarkar trained under the legendary Padma Bhushan awardee Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya and Pt. Shyamal Chatterjee. An 'A' Grade Artist of All India Radio, he is a Sur-O-Mani awardee, National and State Scholarship holder, and a First Class First Gold Medalist (Sangeet Bhaskar) from Chandigarh University, as well as a Sangeet Yuba Ratna awardee. Empanelled with ICCR, EZCC and Spicmacay, Rhitom has performed across India and in the USA, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Australia, Singapore, Bhutan and many more countries. He has released multiple audio CDs of Indian classical and meditation music from India, USA and Canada, and his acclaimed album Delta Raga was released from Toronto, Canada.
Manish Madankar — Tabla
A virtuoso of remarkable versatility, Manish Madankar has performed across India and internationally in France, the Netherlands, Spain, Malta, Russia, Poland, China, Singapore and throughout Europe. Equally at home as a soloist and accompanist — in classical, Kathak, fusion and orchestral settings — he has also contributed to Bollywood film projects and Indian television including D.D. National and the Indian Classical Music Channel (InSync). Trained under Pt. Sandesh Popatkar and the celebrated Pt. Yogesh Samsi, Manish holds a Master's degree and Post-Master's specialisation in Tabla from the prestigious Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh. Recognised as an Approved Artist by All India Radio (2016), he serves as an external professor at the University of Mumbai and is currently based in Rome, where he continues to teach and perform internationally — including recent collaborations with sarod maestro Ken Zuckerman and the world fusion ensemble Indialucia.
Join us for a rare evening where the resonant voice of the slide guitar and the pulsating heartbeat of the tabla come together to carry you deep into the soul of Indian classical music.
