This 60,000 square foot hybrid library/affordable housing project in Chicago combines a 16,000 square foot branch library with a 44-unit affordable housing development. The two-story library supports reading and learning areas for all age groups, as well as a large community multi-purpose room which supports public lectures, gatherings and events. The second floor of the library looks out over a large roof garden that covers the parking lot below and serves as an outdoor space for the housing residents. Housing units all feature outdoor colored balconies - spaces that speak to individual identity. Architect for the project is John Ronan Architects. John will lead our tour of the library. The apartments will not be available to tour due to COVID restrictions.
Independence Library and Apartments is located in the Irving Park neighborhood in Chicago, near the intersection of Irving Park Road and N. Elston Avenue.
Street parking only.
All COVID protocols for the City of Chicago and State of Illinois must be followed, including wearing masks for the duration of the tour.
