The exhibition Indelible showcases work by Kayla Noble, wood fire artist-in-residence at the Clay Studio of Missoula since 2023. Noble has spent the last two years leading the community anagama firings at the Clay Studio and developing this body of work. Noble crafts vessels that push the creative expression of clay creating unique and dynamic surfaces with her firing methods. In addition to leading woodfire programming, Noble has taught and presented on wood firing across the United States. "My relationship with clay is deep. It is both romantic and empirical. I feel connected to the materials I use to form my work and the trees used to fire it. Understanding these materials and processes on a technical level opens the door for a transcendent experience where gut and intuition take control. In a world often governed by precision and uniformity, my pursuit of wood-fired pottery is an homage to the unpredictable, the primal, and the beautifully imperfect.”
Join us for a reception for the artist on Friday August 1 from 5-8pm. Indelible will be on display in the gallery from August 1-26.
