The tiger that is stalking his prey quietly lays down by the side of the cow, enemies stop fighting, milkmaids leave their daily tasks half done, babies stop crying…..hush! Krishna is playing his flute and its strains reach every inhabitant of Gokul, humans and animals alike, drawing them to the divine flautist, casting a magical spell over them.
Artists from Houston, Austin and Dallas enact stories of Krishna – the mischievous little boy who steals milk and butter from the villagers’ homes; the young lad who flirts with the milkmaids but also bravely fights evil forces for the sake of his people; the savior who protects a young princess from being dishonored in public; the divine flautist who dances with joyous abandon in the garden of Vrindavan. And as the dance gathers momentum, music fills the air, magical, celestial, divine, ethereal, as Krishna plays on…..
Samskriti, in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, Houston, presents Incredible India: Call of the Flute.
Samskriti (founded 1995), a trailblazing organization, is a cultural beacon, bridging the gap between diverse artistic traditions, fostering cross-cultural understanding through its performances, educational programs, and community outreach, integrating the rich heritage of Indian classical arts with the broader cultural landscape of America.
Admission is FREE. Covered seating tickets will be available online beginning at 10:00 AM the day before the show. Hill seating is always free and does not require a ticket. Additional covered seating tickets will be available at the Box Office one hour before the performance, while supplies last.
