Increasing Housing while Preserving Heritage: A Workshop on Dynamic Density

Rick Potestio, an Architecture Foundation of Oregon Van Evera Bailey Fellow, and Jonathan Konkol, Chair of City Club of Portland's Built Environment Committee, will share what they learned from their three-year study of middle-scale housing in Portland's classic neighborhoods.

Their research, supported by AFO, delved into historic multifamily housing, neighborhood dynamics, economics, and community planning. From this work, they developed the dynamic density development model, an approach to increasing housing density that also respects neighborhood character and engages residents in shaping change to benefit the whole community.
After the presentation, Rick and Jonathan will facilitate a mock public design workshop where participants will engage in hands-on activities to apply the principles of dynamic density.
