Presentation
Dr. Hammond's presentation, "Beyond the Saga of Rocket Science: A Systems Perspective to New Space", is based on his four-book series: The Dawn of the Space Age (2016), Avoiding Armageddon (2018), In Space To Stay (2019), and The Never-Ending Frontier (2020). He will briefly cover how failures and lessons learned in the past led to the launch vehicles of the present. Then he will take a systems perspective in addressing how the world's launch vehicles are enabling New Space. Finally, he will address the future of human space exploration in the solar system and beyond.
His four most recent books are available for purchase through IngramSpark. Dr. Hammond will bring vouchers that will allow anyone to purchase them.
Walter E. Hammond, Ph.D, P.E. is a space transportation systems subject matter expert. He has written two books for the AIAA Education Series Books, which take a systems approach to this topic. Space Transportation: A Systems Approach to Analysis and Design (1999) and Design Methodologies for Space Transportation Systems (2001). He has 45 years of wide-ranging experience in the military, industrial, and government sectors. Dr. Hammond is presently employed part-time as Adjunct Faculty in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at UCF, where he teaches senior-level aerospace design.
