How can international collaboration support more inclusive approaches to education?
This event shares insights from a British Council supported partnership between the Strathclyde Institute of Education and the School of Special Education at Beijing Normal University.
The collaboration has explored how universities and schools can support learners with additional support needs, disabilities, and diverse learning profiles across mainstream and specialist educational contexts. The project has involved dialogue between researchers, teacher educators, and practitioners in Scotland and China, with a particular focus on inclusive pedagogy, teacher professional learning, and international knowledge exchange in special and inclusive education.
Speakers will reflect on experiences from the collaboration, including work with schools, professional learning activities, and joint academic engagement. The event will also explore lessons learned from the partnership and opportunities for future collaboration in research, professional learning, and international engagement.
Why this matters for practice
Inclusive education is a shared priority across many education systems. This event offers an opportunity to reflect on how different national contexts approach inclusion, and what can be learned through collaboration between universities, schools, and practitioners.
Participants will gain insight into how international partnerships can support professional learning, exchange of practice, and new perspectives on supporting diverse learners in schools and educational settings.
