About this Event

Inclusive Teaching Through Formative Action and Teaching WalkThrus

How can we ensure that every pupil is thinking, learning and succeeding throughout every lesson?

This one-day event explores how inclusive teaching is built through responsive classroom practice, using the powerful combination of Teaching WalkThrus techniques and Formative Action Loops. Drawing on the work of Tom Sherrington (Teaching WalkThrus, @teacherhead) and Valentina Devid (The Formative Action School, Toets Revolutie), participants will examine how effective teaching involves a continuous cycle of orientating learners, generating evidence of learning, evaluating understanding, taking action and verifying success.

Throughout the day, delegates will explore how high-impact WalkThrus techniques such as Think, Pair, Share, Cold Call, Show Me Boards, Check for Understanding, Live Modelling and Guided Practice can be used to create inclusive formative action loops that actively involve every learner. Rather than viewing teaching strategies as isolated techniques, participants will learn how to use them purposefully to reveal understanding, address misconceptions, adapt instruction and ensure that no pupil is left behind. The programme will focus on:

  • Creating classrooms where all pupils participate and contribute.
  • Using formative assessment to gather meaningful evidence from every learner.
  • Identifying and responding to misconceptions in real time.
  • Designing effective re-teaching and responsive teaching routines.
  • Building verification checks that ensure learning has been secured.
  • Developing inclusive teaching approaches that support success for all learners, particularly those who may otherwise become overlooked.

A fantastic day of professional development for leaders, teachers and coaches seeking to strengthen inclusive classroom practice through evidence-informed pedagogy and responsive teaching.

Tea, coffee and a light lunch will be provided. Please contact [email protected] for event enquiries.
