InBetween Nowhere and Everything BATS July Season
Inbetween Nowhere and Everything is a play about cowboys... in space. It plays upon the traditional tropes of the old west; identity, survival, and camaraderie - but through the lens of an expansive science fiction world.
Set in a distant future where stardust is fuel and war is a commonplace, we follow three strangers, a Lover (Alex Quinn), a Killer (Zoe Harris) and a Nobody (Simon Ulm) as they find shelter within an escape pod and are flung into the deepest recesses of empty space, far from any soul or star.
As these strangers float through a haunting and isolating cosmos, they start to find solace in each other, sharing their cowboy songs and stories around the proverbial campfire. Throughout these stories, their pasts and true selves become unveiled with the help of a fourth character, the enigmatic and shadowy THEM (Míren Welsh Ahipene Duffin).
Throughout these stories however, these three strangers find that their lives may not be as distant as they first thought, and that soon, they may have to decide who they'll choose to be when the chips are down...
This ambitious, thought-provoking, charming, and poignant play is the debut independent work of emerging Wellington theatre maker Nathaniel Smith. Featuring elements of live music and dance alongside the traditional structure of a one-room play, it is packed full of moments that will stay with the audience long after they've left the theatre.
In the Mo' Theatre Co. is a brand new company of emerging, local practictioners. Many of the cast and crew are graduates of theatre programmes at Te Herenga Waka and Te Auaha. This project showcases dynamic, exciting new talent in a bold, orginal new work.
