The inaugural Literacy Walk encourages participants of all ages to go the extra mile for literacy. Hosted by The Junior League of Atlanta (JLA), the Walk raises awareness of literacy with proceeds benefiting the JLA and its work with local community organizations engaged in literacy and language development for children and adults including Literacy Action, the Atlanta Speech School, Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students (GEEARS) and Journey to Literacy.
Families of all ages will enjoy musical entertainment by Disc Jockeys Now; a guided warm up by Body by Scotty; interactive pedestrian safety programs by Safe Kids Worldwide an Safe Kids Georgia; Let's Taco Bout It food truck with water and Powerade beverages by Coca-Cola; sweet treats provided by Knead to Savor and Kona Ice; and sponsor/vendor tables for families to learn about local efforts they can get involved with to promote literacy awareness throughout the City of Atlanta.
This family-friendly, fall event will be emceed by CBS46 Meteorologist Rodney Harris and feature JLA President Joy Dyess as a special guest speaker and a local celebrity reading with Carylee Carrington.
The inaugural event is chaired by Amber Powell and co-chaired by Stephanie Collett. Tickets are $15 for children under 12 and $25 for adults. Families can save with a Family Pack for $75, which includes two adult and two child tickets. Go the extra mile for literacy with the JLA this fall!
