About this Event
David is a Professor of Public Health and Policy at the University of Liverpool, and affiliate Professor of Child Public Health at the University of Copenhagen. He works clinically as a Consultant in Public Health at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and co-leads UoL’s Health Inequalities Policy Research Group (HIPR). David grew up in Liverpool.
The rising child health inequalities we are witnessing at the moment are shameful because they are by no means inevitable. Health inequalities are widely considered to be preventable. Kids in the North of England get a particularly bad deal. Poverty drives inequalities between children in the North and their counterparts in the rest of the country, leading to worse physical and mental health outcomes, educational attainment, and life chances. Even before the pandemic, lopsided policy choices have made the situation worse.
In this lecture David will talk about his research on the causes and consequences of child health inequalities and what can we do about them – with a focus on improving lives for children growing up in the North of England.
David's lecture will be followed by a reception, and we plan to livestream the lecture, details to follow.
