Here at Empire Arts Gallery we could not be more excited to announce the 2nd exhibition in our 2021 series, "Inability to Fathom" - a collection of paintings by abstract artist Uruba Slaughter, who is a testament to the strength and determination of the creative process. While Uruba's use of color and texture beautifully mirrors her timeline of trials in life, we are also struck by her interaction with viewers, welcoming the observer to be part of her journey.
While most times in a gallery you would never cross to touch a painting or interact with it past a gaze, Uruba engages the viewer who purchases her work through a Dadaist approach, giving the power to the purchaser to determine the composition by choosing the direction that her art hangs. In these times, the artist chooses to allow her viewer to share her creative process in a playful way that further bonds the patron to her work, and right now we could all use less cold online purchases and more interaction. While Uruba's work will be available online for purchase, you will have the chance to be part of her visual legacy by deciding the final outcome of the composition - this is truly a moment to celebrate her art and human cooperation.
We are excited to have Uruba bring such a viewer-centric exhibit to our gallery, and we look forward to you sharing this experience with us.
Join us in person for socially distant opening ceremonies on July 3rd, and once again for the closing on August 28th - for the first time ever, we'll be offering walk-up gallery viewings in order of signing up in person, or you can reserve your slot at http://tinyurl.com/empireartsgallery & visit our virtual gallery at http://empireartsgallery.com
Presented in part by Elmyriachi, Tower Press, Topo Chico, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and Tritium Marketing
----------------------------------------------------
Born In New York City and currently residing between St. Louis, MO and Atlanta, GA, Uruba Slaughter is a professional artist whose focus is abstractions. Her use of custom textures and acrylic colors enable her to portray visions with commanding depth.
Uruba's passion for becoming an artist was put on hold for over 20 years as she was completely engrossed with her role as a wife and mother of four. Now with an empty nest, she has found the time and attention to focus her spirit and energy into her creative works.
In 2013, she was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. She found that her uses of receptive meditation and reflection allowed her to accurately reflect her emotions, experience, and power to flow through colors, texture, and meaning that flow onto the canvas to the awe and surprise of her physicians.
In that time since, Uruba has amassed a catalog of original masterpieces that can never be duplicated - her art is not about defined patterns as it is patterns from the inside out! Each work is created with colors, texture, and acrylic created by her personally-developed sponging technique, and none of her pieces follow a defined plan or pattern.
