About this Event
The time will come
when,with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome.
From Love After Love by Derek Walcott
Who is running your life, your decision-making, your role in a particular relationship?
Do you raise your children as you were raised?
Do you act with your partner as your mother did with your father?
Are you deaf to parts of yourself as your carer was to your needs?
Are you okay with how you relate to others and how they treat you?
If these questions arise for you or your client, this workshop will offer a route to finding some answers.
Based on the work of Eric Berne, I’ve developed his Transactional Analysis model of Parent, Adult, Child ego states. This is a shorthand description of how we interact with others, just as these titles suggest.
If as a child you were not met, accepted and loved for who you were, this approach offers a second chance at parenting, re-parenting the Child as the adult that you are now.
In this workshop:
- I will give a brief history of the work of Eric Berne and Erik Erikson and the concepts of self-image and ego development.
- Describe how I came to develop this model.
- Offer the physical experience of working with colour association.
- You will have the opportunity to hear the unique Voice of your ego states.
- Learn how to identify your own Parental Voice .
- Discover how you adapted in order to help you survive.
From experiencing this yourself, you will learn how to create an opportunity for your clients to replace their self-image, resulting from inadequate parenting, and to establish a new relationship with themselves.
This isn’t a TA workshop. You can read that any time if you’re interested. This is about looking at the person created by someone else, in their own image. It’s about going back to your very essence, acknowledging who you are, the adult you were born to be and through faithful attention and reflection, adopting yourself and growing yourself up again, with love.
About the Trainer - Christine Meek
Christine trained forty years ago with Dr. Winifred Rushforth in dreamwork and with Dr. Diana Bates at Wellspring in a Jungian/Humanistic approach, extending her training for a further two terms of training in Wellness. Finding dreams an invaluable guide, she studied a further two years in a Jungian dream group. She continues to use dreamwork in her practice daily and to maintain her own wellness.
By chance, the therapeutic use of Russian Dolls emerged in her work with an American client and she developed an additional model over the next year or so.
Some further years into her practice she attended a summer school on Transactional Analysis and, from an experience there that changed her awareness, she developed Eric Berne’s model using colour association and a hula hoop!
These three tools, along with her humanistic training, form the cornerstone of Christine’s approach to working with every new person who comes into the room.
