In the Argentine neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas, American Legion Post 213, known as The Eagles Nest, has been a gathering place for generations of Mexican American veterans and their community. Surrounded by photographs and memorabilia, Vietnam-era veterans came together here to share their stories and reflect on a legacy of service passed down through their families.
This program features a screening of In Their Own Words: Mexican American Vietnam Era Veterans Share Their Stories, a film inspired by Kansas Stories of the Vietnam War, a Humanities Kansas initiative led by Dr. Gene T. Chavez, Ed.D. The film highlights the voices of Mexican American veterans whose stories are being preserved for future generations and archived locally, at the Kansas State Historical Society, and at the Library of Congress. Join us for an afternoon of remembrance, history, and shared legacy.
