Delhi Ki Garmee said: “Bas karo Heritage Walks!”
So we said: “Fine. We’ll take it Indoors!!”
*Presenting: MuseoMay 2026* ✨
Our annual, month-long series of cooler, quieter, story-filled weekends inside Delhi’s most epic museums (because 18th May = World Museums Day, obviously we had to go big!)
For our 3rd MuseoMay walk, we head towards The Partition Museum - to walk through memories of Partition of India—where stories of loss, resilience, and rebirth still echo in every corner of the Partition Museum.
Located in the heart of Delhi, the Partition Museum reflects the city’s own deep entanglement with the events of 1947, when it became a center for countless refugees arriving from across the newly drawn border. It stands today as both a memorial and a living archive honoring the millions of men, women and children who lost their homes—and often their lives—virtually overnight.
This walk takes visitors through the museum’s six evocative galleries, which trace a chronological and emotional journey. Beginning with the early 1900s and the rising resistance to British colonial rule, the narrative builds toward the fateful moment of independence and Partition. Along the way, visitors will encounter oral histories, personal belongings, evocative photographs, and everyday objects that bring to life the heartbreak, chaos and upheaval of that time.
Walk Highlights:
- Trace the journey from India’s independence movement to the 1947 Partition and its aftermath.
- Immersive walkthrough of exhibits showcasing how the events of 1947 shaped Delhi.
- Engage with personal stories told through oral histories, photos, and artifacts.
- Examine personal belongings of Partition survivors that reflect their journey and resilience.
- Visit the museum in the historic Dara Shukoh Library, which has its own rich past.
