About this Event

Join Mary C. McLemore for a watercolor and sketching workshop in the style of William Bartram. Mrs. McLemore graduated from Auburn University with a BFA and from Troy State University with an MA in Education. She has had a wide range of teaching experiences, from Cochise College in Arizona to the Montgomery YWCO and Head Elementary School. Since the Armory's opening in 1983, Mary McLemore has been an art class instructor. In her free time, she enjoys painting and has had two shows at The Learning Arts Center.
William Bartram was born in Kingsessing, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John Bartram, a prominent colonial botanist. William displayed an early talent for drawing and natural observation, accompanying his father on expeditions from a young age. His observations included vivid botanical, zoological, and ethnographic notes, providing lasting scientific and historical value for the region. Bartram’s detailed notes from his journey through Montgomery are important resources for both the natural and human history of central Alabama.
Landmarks Foundation and the Armory Learning Arts Center are collaborating on this exciting new workshop.
