Auditions will be:
Virtual video submissions due June 18th
Open Night of Auditions June 20th at 6:30 pm
Callbacks on Wednesday, June 21st
Performance Dates: September 8-10 and 15-17
Rehearsal Dates: 6:30pm-9:00pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday starting July 10th, possible Saturdays
Audition Requirements:
-Download Google Classroom app and join our Matilda group with the code: fn4mhia
-Please use Google Classroom link to see songs, links, and part selection to prepare for each character. Google Classroom will be used to submit video auditions.
For in-person auditions:
-Be prepared for cold reads.
-No Acapella. Everyone will use specific tracks for each song.
-Please wear comfortable clothing and bring jazz shoes/sneakers and if you have them.
Story synopsis:
Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award-winning Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical is the captivating masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and extraordinary powers. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her school teacher Miss Honey. During her first term at school, the two forge a bond as Miss Honey begins to recognize and appreciate Matilda's extraordinary personality. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however-- the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves to punish those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!
Characters:
*Although character names are traditionally male/female, all roles are open to all genders.
Matilda Wormwood- age range 10+, Mezzo Soprano. An imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Miss Trunchbull– any adult age, Baritone. Headmistress of Crunchem Hall, the tyrannical headmistress at Matilda's school who despises children. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Miss Honey– any adult age, Mezzo-Soprano. Matilda's kindhearted, sweet, honest, and intelligent teacher. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Mr. Wormwood– any adult age, Baritone. Matilda's uncaring father; slimy, greedy used-car salesman, unintentionally hilarious. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Mrs. Wormwood– any adult age, Mezzo-Soprano. Matilda’s mother; self-absorbed, negligent, and an amateur ballroom dancer. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Bruce Bogtrotter– age range 10+. Countertenor/Tenor. Matilda's classmate; a genuine, kind boy with a fondness for sweets. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Amanda– age range 10+, Mezzo-Soprano/Soprano. Will also be part of kid ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Lavender– age range 10+, Mezzo-Soprano. Will also be part of kid ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Alice– age range 10+, Mezzo-Soprano/Soprano. Will also be part of kid ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Hortensia– age range 10+, Soprano. Will also be part of kid ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Eric– age range 10+, Tenor. Will also be part of kid ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Nigel– age range 10+, Tenor. Will also be part of kid ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Tommy– age range 10+, Tenor. Will also be part of kid ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Mrs. Phelps– any adult age. Local librarian who is Matilda’s confidant. Will also be part of adult ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Rudolpho– any adult age, Tenor. Mrs. Wormwood’s dance partner. Will also be part of adult ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Michael Wormwood– teens-20s, Tenor. Matilda’s older brother. Will also be part of adult ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Sergei– any adult age, Baritone. Russian mafia boss who is after Mr. Wormwood. Will also be part of adult ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Doctor- any adult age, Tenor. Will also be part of adult ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Escapologist– any adult age, Baritone. Will also be part of adult ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Acrobat– any adult age, Mezzo Soprano/Tenor. Will also be part of adult ensemble. Singing, dancing, acting required.
Adult and Children Ensemble- ages 13-70, all vocal parts needed
