Come learn activities to implement from both inside and outside the dogs' kennels!
Why does in-kennel enrichment matter? Even on a good day when a dog gets adequate out of kennel time, dogs living in animal shelters will spend the majority of the day in their kennels. It’s their home while they wait for a foster or adopter and it’s often where those fosters and adopters first meet them.
The more we can do to decrease stress, build a positive association with humans in and around their kennel environment, and provide species appropriate behavior outlets, the bigger the impact we’ll have on the dogs’ overall well-being including physical and behavioral health. This means we can help the dogs show better to fosters and adopters, be easier to handle for staff and volunteers, and live healthier and happier lives during their shelter stay.
There is a large and growing body of evidence that shows the positive impacts our efforts can have on health, behavior, and a successful transition home. Read more/see sources: https://www.dogpossibleaustin.com/blog/the-emotional-lives-of-shelter-dogs-part-one
