About this Event
Writing on the Wall presents Olympic Bronze and European Gold medalist Anyika Onuora in Conversation at Waterstones Liverpool discussing and reading from her brand-new book ‘My Hidden Race’. The three-time Olympian will detail the reality of the hardships she has faced and obstacles she has overcome, including how it felt growing up in the white working-class area of Dingle, Liverpool and being subjected to daily racial abuse, and now shining a light on the racism and haunting sexual assault she experienced in the athletics industry. Anyika will also discuss her inspirational pursuit of her Olympic dreams against the odds as a black British woman and black female athlete.
Anyika’s story is just one of the examples of the hardship BAME people have had to endure while navigating through their careers. In Black History Month, Writing on the Wall invites you to celebrate everything that Anyika has accomplished on and off the track, by joining us for this unique event.
Hosting the conversation and leading the Q&A will be BBC Radio Merseyside’s Ngunan Adamu, Producer/Presenter of the Upfront Show. Ngunan Adamu is also an international multi-media trainer and award-winning entrepreneur for her social enterprise iWoman Academy CIC. She has a BA honours in Journalism and Postgraduate Certificate in Education.
