About this Event

Kelley Point Park is a Portland City Park located at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. The piano is placed in a grassy meadow with ample room to spread out a picnic or walk along the sandy riverbank.

Hall Jackson Kelley, the area’s namesake, initially planned for the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia to be a major city. Kelley had a 40-year obsession with developing Oregon rivers which culminated in a book he published, “Settlement on the Oregon River,” in 1828. Despite Kelley’s fervent advocacy, the confluence never became a metropolis, but rather experienced years of dredging under the ownership of the Port of Portland.

Across an 11,000-year span before Kelley’s enterprising publication, Chinookan-speaking peoples, including the Clackamas, Kathlamet, Multnomah, and Tualatin Natives, dwelled, traded, hunted and fished the confluence.

Thank you to our partners, Portland Parks Foundation, who help Portland communities create more equitable access to nature, play, health, and places of connection.

This debut album features Hunter performing select favorites from the classical piano canon as well as collaborations with Native American flutist James Edmund Greeley, psychedelic electronics by Dave Friedlander, a spacious concerto with the Salem Orchestra, and an arrangement of Franz Schubert’s most beautiful song with Pink Martini’s China Forbes and Thomas Lauderdale.
