A vibrant fusion led by sitarist Imran Khan and vocalist Sikandar Khan brings Rajasthani Sufi poetry and folk rhythms into conversation with contemporary grooves, inviting the audience into an electrifying, shared celebration of music, movement, and spirit.
From the sands of Rajasthan to a contemporary global stage, this performance carries the pulse of Sufi and folk traditions into a bold, living sound. Led by sitarist Imran Khan, the ensemble draws on centuries of mystic poetry and desert storytelling, translating songs of love, devotion, and longing into a language that feels immediate and electric.
Anchored in the evocative verses of Sufi saints and rustic folk lyricism, the music moves between the intimate and the expansive. The soaring voice of Sikandar Khan rides atop fast-paced percussion, dholak, and khartal, while drums, bass guitar and keys introduce a contemporary edge. Eastern melodies converse with Western harmonies, and age-old rhythms collide joyfully with modern grooves.
Imran Khan’s sitar leads the way, fluid, expressive, and commanding, threading ragas, folk tunes, and Sufi kalaams into arrangements built for the now. The evening rises and falls in waves: quiet moments of reflection give way to surging crescendos that invite clapping, singing, movement, and release. What emerges is a shared musical high, raw, rhythmic, and deeply human where tradition doesn’t look back, but moves forward with force and feeling.
This performance is supported by Reliance Foundation.
