Improving Trust and Confidence in the Metropolitan Police

Join us for an interactive evening to discuss your views on how to make policing better for Londoners and to hear from the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime and senior leaders in the Metropolitan Police Service how they are responding to these critical issues. There will be workshops to explore and shape how the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime and the Met Police can respond to the call for reform and transformation that is urgently needed, as well as an open question and answer panel with key leaders.

The Mayor's Action Plan for Transparency, Accountability and Trust in Policing was developed to address community concerns about the disproportionality in the use of certain police powers affecting Black Londoners, recognising also that Black communities have long been less likely to have trust and confidence in the police. Much has happened since its publication in 2020, including the appointment of a new Police Commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley, with his mission of More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards, and the publication of Baroness Casey’s Review of Culture and Standards in the Metropolitan Police Service, which amongst other concerns has found that the Met is failing women and children, frontline policing has been deprioritised and degraded, and there is institutional racism, sexism and homophobia, inside the organisation in terms of how officers and staff are treated, and outside the organisation in terms of how communities are policed.
