In today’s entertainment industry, being able to think on your feet is essential. Whether you're auditioning, rehearsing, or performing on stage or screen, improv skills can take your acting to the next level. Improv for Actors is a fast-paced, fun, and interactive two-hour workshop designed to help you sharpen your instincts, boost your confidence, and unlock your creativity. This session is perfect for theatre students and grads from Alberta programs like U of A’s BFA Acting, MacEwan’s Theatre Arts, or Mount Royal’s Theatre Performance, as well as working actors or anyone with performance training looking to brush up on their improv skills.
You’ll dive into the fundamentals—scene work, environment creation, and scenic transformation—using games, exercises, and playful exploration. We’ll work on building ensemble chemistry, finding character motivation on the fly, and trusting your instincts to create compelling moments, whether scripted or unscripted.
Instructor Mat Mailandt is the President of Think Fast Comedy, a Second City Faculty Member, and a prolific commercial actor, known for his 5-year stint as the Leons guy. He's taught and performed improv all over the world and is a working actor in Toronto.
If you want to loosen up, take some risks, and have fun while improving your craft, this workshop is for you. Come ready to play, and let’s improvise!
