About this Event
Are you an improviser that wants to elevate your performances with some acting skills? This five week course focuses on elements that can enhance improvised moments, including listening, applying the Meisner Technique, using point of view, and finding your voice and body. Each session will end with a set of improvised scenes and notes focussing less on the improv and more on the acting. Improvisers will receive a monologue at the start of the class to work on throughout the course.
Improv 210 is open to anyone that has had at least two levels of improv training. It consists of five two-hour classes on Sundays (August 11, 18, & 25 and September 1 & 8) from 1 to 3 pm at Big Couch's Bywater location at 1045 Desire St., New Orleans, LA 70117. At the culmination of the course, attendees will put on an evening improv show on Thursday, September 12.
A registration fee of $125 will cover all five sessions, and scholarships are available to those who identify as Black/African American, Indigenous, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian American Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA+, and/or disabled, as well for those whom English is their second language. To inquire about scholarship opportunities, please email [email protected].
About the workshop's facilitator - Drew Stroud!
Drew Stroud has been doing theatre ever since he got kicked off his high school baseball team for “not being good.” He holds he’s MFA in Theatre Performance from the University of New Orleans where his thesis focused on the importance of improv in the actors tool belt. and have become heavily involved with Big Couch, namely singing-out of tune with Sorry, We’re Singing. Drew has been improvising for 14 years and has flirted with all the various different forms, serving as a performer, coach, director and producer of improvisational theatre. If you want to bore yourself and learn more about Drew’s brain, you can read his thesis: “Voices in My Head: An Improvisers Approach to Becky Mode’s ‘Fully Committed’” Or you can just take his class and save yourself the hassle of navigating that chaos.
