Improv 201: Characters and Relationships (Mondays 7:00 PM - 9:15 PM)

Emotional reactions are the bedrock of improv. In our second level, you will strengthen the skills you built in our Intro class and focus on creating sustainable scenes based on patterns of emotional behavior that inform Characters and Relationships.

Great if you want to dig deeper into improv or if you need to interact with other humans in your day-to-day life.

Dates: The class runs Mondays from 01/12/2026 to 03/03/2026, starting 01/12/2026 and running for 8 weeks.

A showcase will be scheduled as an additional opportunity on an evening during the week of March 8.

Note- This class may take place at an alternate location ~1 block from the Coalition Theater. Week one of class will meet at the Coalition at 7:00 PM, and the class will walk to the nearby class location together. Future weeks will meet at 7:15 at the alternate location.

Instructors: Ivy McGovern and Sam Rizzo

Sam Rizzo jumped headfirst into improv at the Coalition Theater after seeing a 501 showcase in 2024 and has been voraciously consuming improv (and Diet Pepsi) ever since. You can see Sam put his improv skills to use with Ivy on the indie team Pizza Moon as well as some miscellaneous Lab performances! In his spare time, Sam likes to challenge himself with board games, piano, and mathematics.

Ivy McGovern is a comedy nerd who’s been around The Coalition for a year and a half. You can see them perform regularly with Coalition House team, babybangs, or sporadically with their indie team, Pizza Moon. Outside of improv, Ivy is an avid Dungeons and Dragons player, professional snake and bug lovin’ guy, and earnest Just Dance enjoyer.

Prerequisites: Improv 101, or equivalent classes at a comparable institution. Email [email protected] with questions.

Cost: $250 (Early Bird: $220)

The Coalition Theater is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Once classes begin, all sales are final. We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise that prevent you from attending or completing your registered class. While we do our best to accommodate such situations, refunds are awarded only as credit for a future class or shows and are subject to the discretion of The Coalition Theater management. Requests for refunds will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and any decisions regarding refunds will be made at the discretion of the theater.
