What is Impressionism? Impressionism is an art movement that began in the late 19th century, focused on capturing the immediate impression of a moment, especially its light, color, and atmosphere, rather than detailing every part of a scene. Originating in France with artists like Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Camille Pissarro, it emphasized plein air painting (working outdoors) to capture natural lighting and its effects. Why Impressionism? Learning the techniques of the Impressionists is a really fun way of expanding your skills. These exciting techniques can then be brought into your furture works and open up new avenues for you to explore.
